Beschrijving voorzijde A three-quarter perspective view of the Banco Central de Costa Rica headquarters building occupies the central field, rendered in fine detail with a modernist architectural style. The legend BANCO CENTRAL DE COSTA RICA arcs along the upper periphery, with the anniversary dates 1950-1970 continuing along the right side. The denomination numeral 2 appears prominently in the lower central field, with the word COLONES inscribed along the lower border. A small mint mark or privy mark is visible to the right of the numeral 2. A border of fine beading frames the entire design.

Aanvullende informatie

Trial strikes for Costa Rican commemoratives from this period were produced to test planchet quality and die alignment before authorizing full production runs. The 1970 issue marked two decades of the Banco Central, founded in 1950 following the nationalization of Costa Rica's banking system under Figueres — a politically charged restructuring that consolidated monetary authority away from private banks. Whether this reverse trial ever advanced to an approved strike is the more interesting question the piece poses.
