The Banco Central de Reserva de El Salvador relied on Thomas De La Rue throughout much of the mid-twentieth century, and this series is no exception — a long-standing commercial relationship that gave Salvadoran currency consistent technical quality during a period when the country's political situation was anything but stable. The 1976–1981 date range is significant: it brackets the gathering crisis that culminated in the 1979 coup and the onset of civil war, meaning later-dated examples from this series circulated through conditions of serious social disruption.
Security fibre is the only anti-counterfeiting measure embedded in the paper — modest by later standards, but De La Rue's printing quality itself served as a deterrent in regional circulation.
