Obverse description Central field features the crowned royal cypher of Léopold II — a stylised interlaced 'L' surmounted by a royal crown — set at the centre of the round-holed flan. Four crowned heraldic lion shields are arranged symmetrically around the central hole at the cardinal points, flanked by diagonal ribs radiating outward in a cross pattern. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner border. The circular legend reads: LEOP. II R. D. BELGES SOUV. DE L'ETAT INDEP. DU CONGO, separated by a single star ornament, running along the outer rim between the beaded border and the toothed edge.
