| Description du revers | The reverse bears a prominent counterstamp consisting of the numeral '2' applied in relief at the center of the field, denoting the revalued denomination of 2 Centavos. Surrounding the counterstamp, the faint outlines of the original host coin design are partially visible, appearing to show remnants of a coat of arms or decorative emblematic device consistent with Honduran coinage of the period. The counterstamp is boldly impressed and stands in clear contrast to the worn underlying design. The field displays typical circulation wear and copper oxidation. The rim is rounded and shows minor irregularities from use. |

Honduras faced a chronic small-change shortage in the late 19th century, and rather than mint new coinage, the government authorized the counterstamping of existing copper pieces already in circulation. KM#49.1 represents the first of two distinct counterstamp types applied during this period, distinguished primarily by punch style. The host coins vary considerably — finding a specimen where both the underlying coin and the applied stamp are fully legible is the exception, not the rule.
