Four Chinese ideograms in Regular script (楷書) are arranged in the four cardinal positions around the central perforation, reading clockwise from top: 開 (Kai), 禧 (Xi), 寶 (Bao), 通 (Tong), together forming the reign era legend 開禧通寶 (Kaixi Tongbao). The characters are rendered in well-formed strokes with a broad, slightly raised relief against a flat field. The outer rim is raised and clearly defined, encircling the entire design. |
