Obverse description The obverse displays four horizontal lines of bold Arabic calligraphy in relief, filling the entire field within a decorative inner border of alternating teardrop and dot motifs. The legend reads the Ottoman imperial titulature of Sultan Mahmud II. The outer rim is milled, and the overall flan is irregular in shape, characteristic of Algerian coinage of this period. There are no figurative elements; the design is entirely epigraphic in the Ottoman-Arabic tradition.
