Nejat Uygur (1927–2015) was one of Turkey's most celebrated comedic actors and theater directors, whose career in Istanbul's Küçük Sahne spanned decades and whose work defined a particular strain of Turkish satirical comedy. This issue is part of the Turkish State Mint's ongoing commemorative series honoring figures from Turkish cultural and artistic life — a program that has accelerated noticeably since the mid-2010s.

Nordic Gold, the aluminum-bronze alloy used by the European Central Bank for euro cent coinage, was adopted by several mints for commemoratives owing to its resistance to tarnishing and distinctive warm color without the cost of actual gold content.
