| Opis rewersu | The reverse presents a finely modelled high-relief bust portrait of Mehmet Akif Ersoy, the Turkish poet and author of the İstiklal Marşı, facing slightly to the viewer's left and rendered in naturalistic style with detailed facial features including a trimmed moustache and goatee beard. The subject is depicted in contemporary civilian dress with jacket, shirt and tie, the truncation of the bust resting low in the field. The inscription 'MEHMET AKİF ERSOY' is engraved in capital letters along the lower arc of the field, immediately beneath the portrait. The surrounding field is plain and lightly textured, allowing the portrait to dominate the composition. The oxidised bronze finish enhances the sculptural depth of the effigy. |
