Beschrijving voorzijde The Hamburg city arms depicted as three defensive towers above a portcullis gate, rendered in high relief at the center of the coin. The central tower is taller and crowned, flanked by two shorter embattled towers, all rising from a crenellated wall with an open portcullis below. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle. A two-line Latin legend surrounds the central device, with the outer legend referencing the Portuguese standard of fineness (NACH PORTUGALIS SCHROT VND KORN) and the inner legend reading MONETA NOVA AVREA, identifying this as a new gold coinage.
Schrift voorzijde Latin

Beschrijving keerzijde A large ornate cross pattée of Portuguese type occupies the center of the field, its arms adorned with decorative scrollwork and floral terminals, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The cross is rendered in the style of the Portuguese cruzado, reflecting Hamburg's adoption of that coinage standard. The surrounding Latin legend, divided by the cross arms, reads IN XPO CRVCIFIXO PENDIT SALVS NRA, a devotional inscription meaning 'In Christ crucified hangs our salvation.' The overall composition is bold and symmetrical, with the legend running continuously around the outer margin between two concentric circles.
