A central oval vignette contains the arms of Karlsruhe — a diagonal-striped shield — surrounded by ornate scrollwork. The denomination "Zwei Millionen Mark" is set in large Gothic blackletter script across the lower half, with the numeral "2.000.000" repeated in the upper corners. A central rectangular vignette presents a letterpress townscape view of Karlsruhe's market square, with the Stadtkirche tower rising prominently at right and the neoclassical Rathaus at left, animated by pedestrian and tram activity in the foreground.
