Karlsruhe notgeld from the hyperinflation peak of 1923, issued by the city council directly — a municipal authority stepping in because Reichsbank notes were simply losing value faster than they could be printed and distributed. The 2,000,000 Mark denomination places this squarely in the mid-1923 acceleration, before the autumn months when denominations climbed into the billions and trillions.
Arthur Albrecht & Cie. was a local Karlsruhe commercial press, not a specialist security printer. The dry stamp was the primary authentication device — a low-tech solution that reflects both the speed of production required and the limited options available to municipal issuers working outside the formal banking infrastructure.
