Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse presents an incuse mirror image of the obverse design, with the bust of President Habib Bourguiba appearing recessed into the field in the manner characteristic of a uniface die trial or pattern strike. The surrounding bilingual legends — 'HABIB BOURGUIBA' and 'PRESIDENT DE LA REP. TUNISIENNE' in Latin script, accompanied by their Arabic equivalents — appear correspondingly incuse, reading in reverse as a direct negative impression of the obverse die.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued to mark the tenth anniversary of Tunisian independence from France, proclaimed on March 20, 1956 after decades of protectorate rule. The commemorative program coincided with Bourguiba's increasingly authoritarian consolidation — by 1967 he had already been declared president for life, and state-issued commemoratives from this period functioned largely as instruments of personality-cult legitimation rather than pure numismatic celebration.

The aluminium composition at this size and weight produces a notably light coin, a practical concession to the cost of non-ferrous metals for a young republic still building its monetary infrastructure.
