| 裏面の説明 | The reverse presents an incuse mirror image of the obverse design, with the bust of President Habib Bourguiba appearing recessed into the field in the manner characteristic of a uniface die trial or pattern strike. The surrounding bilingual legends — 'HABIB BOURGUIBA' and 'PRESIDENT DE LA REP. TUNISIENNE' in Latin script, accompanied by their Arabic equivalents — appear correspondingly incuse, reading in reverse as a direct negative impression of the obverse die. |

Issued to mark the tenth anniversary of Tunisian independence from France, proclaimed on March 20, 1956 after decades of protectorate rule. The commemorative program coincided with Bourguiba's increasingly authoritarian consolidation — by 1967 he had already been declared president for life, and state-issued commemoratives from this period functioned largely as instruments of personality-cult legitimation rather than pure numismatic celebration.
The aluminium composition at this size and weight produces a notably light coin, a practical concession to the cost of non-ferrous metals for a young republic still building its monetary infrastructure.
