| 正面描述 | Laureate head of Zeus facing right, rendered in bold relief with richly detailed hair and beard characteristic of Hellenistic provincial bronze coinage. The portrait displays a strong, mature visage with naturalistic modeling of facial features. Three pellets appear in the field, likely serving as control marks. The entire design is set within a beaded border. |

Petelia, a Bruttian town of Oenotrian origin, earned an extraordinary place in the Second Punic War by holding out against Hannibal for longer than virtually any other Italian community — ancient sources record a siege lasting several months before starvation forced capitulation around 216 BC. Rome later honored the town's loyalty, and that status likely underwrote continued local bronze coinage into the first century BC, well past the point when most southern Italian mints had gone silent under Roman monetary consolidation.
