Termessos, the Pisidian city perched high in the Taurus Mountains, was one of the few settlements in the region that successfully resisted Alexander the Great — he judged the siege too costly and moved on. That independence persisted for centuries. Rome granted Termessos the status of a free city, formalized under a lex data around 71 BC, which is precisely why the city issued its own bronze coinage through the late Republican period without Roman interference or oversight.
The SNG France 2107 reference places this piece within a well-documented but modestly sized series.
