The reverse presents an elaborate multi-layered shadow box composition depicting a boreal forest nocturnal summer scene, employing four discrete engraved and painted planes that partially overlap to create dramatic three-dimensional depth. The antique-finished bottom layer establishes the atmospheric setting with a full moon rising above mountains and spruce-covered (Picea sp.) foothills. The second layer, rendered in polychrome, depicts a Canada lynx (Lynx canadensis) stalking a snowshoe hare (Lepus americanus), while a pileated woodpecker (Dryocopus pileatus) rests nearby. The third painted layer introduces a wolf pack (Canis lupus) tracking the lynx from the bank of a stream, heightening the predator-prey narrative tension. The antique-finished uppermost layer frames the woodland foreground with detailed flora, a semirelict underwing moth (Catocala semirelicta) at upper right, and the snowshoe hare at ground level, with the country name CANADA and date 2025 inscribed within the design. |

The "Predator or Prey" series has been one of the RCM's more commercially successful ultra-high-relief formats, leaning into the shadow box presentation — a deep-relief strike mounted within a layered frame that creates genuine dimensional separation between foreground and background elements. At 738 grams of .9999 silver, the planchet alone represents a substantial commitment of refined metal, and the production tolerances required for consistent relief depth at this diameter push the limits of what modern coining presses handle routinely.
Charles III coinage from the RCM carries his effigy by Canadian sculptor Steven Rosati, approved for circulation and collector issues following the King's accession in September 2022.
