A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, separated by pellet stops, reading IACOBVS · 6 · DEI · GRATIA · REX · SCOTORVM, identifying James VI as King of Scots by the Grace of God. The flan is characteristically irregular in shape, as expected of a hammered silver issue of this period. |
