| Obverse description | Diademed and veiled head of Queen Philistis facing left, rendered in fine Hellenistic style with a diaphanous veil drawn tightly over the diadem and falling in deeply engraved folds behind the head. A pendant earring is visible at the ear. A torch symbol is positioned to the right in the field. The portrait is modelled with considerable sculptural refinement, consistent with the high artistic standards of the Syracusan mint under Hieron II. |
