| Obverse description | Black intaglio print on white paper with a central vignette of a uniformed military portrait bust, facing slightly left, set within an oval frame. The bank title EL BANCO DE LA PROVINCIA DE BUENOS AYRES arcs across the top in bold letterpress, flanked on each side by the denomination numeral 0.16 in large ornamental figures. Below the portrait, a handwritten promise-to-pay text reads Pagará al portador y á la vista en moneda de oro de curso legal, 1° Enero de 1869, with the denomination spelled out in large bold type: Diez y seis centésimos fuertes along the lower register; two manuscript signatures appear at bottom labeled INSPECTOR and PRESIDENTE. |

| Reverse description | Printed entirely in red-brown ink, the reverse is dominated by an elaborate guilloche border and lathe-work underprint surrounding a central rectangular vignette of a steam locomotive in motion, rendered in fine intaglio engraving. The denomination 0.16 appears in large bold numerals on both the left and right panels, with the spelled-out value DIEZ Y SEIS CENTESIMOS arching above the locomotive vignette and FUERTES set in a decorative cartouche below it. The imprint AMERICAN BANK NOTE CO. NEW YORK runs along the upper margin. |
