背面描述 Kantharos (wine cup) depicted facing, with two prominent loop handles flanking the cup body and a short stem with base below; the vessel is centrally placed within the field. The ethnic inscription NA Ξ-Ι appears flanking the kantharos, identifying the issuing city of Naxos. The design is characteristic of Naxian civic bronze coinage of the 4th century BC, with the kantharos serving as a prominent civic symbol referencing the island's association with Dionysos.

附加信息

Naxos was the wealthiest island in the Cyclades during the classical period, its prosperity built almost entirely on marble quarrying and the wine trade. Bronze coinage of this type filled local transactional needs that silver — reserved for inter-polis commerce — could not practically serve. The island's political autonomy fluctuated sharply across this century, passing under Athenian, then Spartan, then Macedonian influence without ever losing the administrative machinery that kept small-denomination bronze in circulation.

HGC 6, 635 is not a common attribution, and surviving examples frequently show uneven flans from the casting process used before striking.
