| 背面描述 | The Colombian national coat of arms is displayed centrally, featuring the three-part shield with the Phrygian cap, cornucopias, and a sailing vessel, surmounted by a condor with outstretched wings and flanked by two crossed flags. The fineness inscription LEY 0,900 appears above the arms, the mint mark B is positioned to the lower right of the shield, and a border of beads encircles the design. The denomination MIL QUINIENTOS PESOS arcs around the upper field, while the numeral 1500 is prominently inscribed along the lower rim, accompanied by a series of small five-pointed stars. |

Colombia hosted the 39th International Eucharistic Congress in Bogotá in August 1968 — the same visit that brought Pope Paul VI to South America for the first time, making it the first papal visit to the continent in history. The Congress drew an estimated one million pilgrims to Bogotá and was the organizing event behind a burst of Colombian commemorative coinage that year.
At 64.50 grams of .900 gold, this is among the heaviest coins the Casa de Moneda issued in the twentieth century. Struck in a limited commemorative run, examples rarely show handling wear but frequently exhibit bag marks consistent with bulk storage rather than circulation.
