The 1500 francs denomination exists purely as a face-value vehicle for the bullion market.
The 2015 total solar eclipse visible from parts of West Africa on March 20th provided the commercial hook. That eclipse tracked primarily across the North Atlantic and the Faroe Islands, reaching only partial visibility over Burkina Faso itself.
