Obverse description The national coat of arms of Togo occupies the central field, depicting two rampant lions flanking a shield bearing the initials 'RT' (République Togolaise), above which two crossed national flags are displayed with the motto ribbons 'TRAVAIL' and 'PATRIE' and a central scroll inscribed 'LIBERTÉ'. The circular legend 'REPUBLIQUE TOGOLAISE' runs along the upper periphery, while the denomination '1500 FRANCS' appears in bold relief across the lower field.

Reverse description A detailed bust portrait of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, the celebrated German poet and polymath, faces slightly to the left in a neoclassical style, rendered with fine high-relief engraving. The subject is depicted in period dress with a loosely knotted cravat. The name 'GOETHE' arcs along the left field, while his birth and death years '1749-1832' are inscribed vertically along the right field. The issue year '2005' appears in the lower exergue beneath the portrait.
