Additional information

Issued to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Vallabhbhai Patel, who as India's first Home and States Minister oversaw the integration of over 560 princely states into the Indian Union between 1947 and 1949 — a process he accomplished largely through a combination of political coercion and negotiated instrument of accession, with Hyderabad ultimately requiring a military operation in September 1948.
