Additional information

Ras al-Khaimah, one of the smaller Trucial States on the Persian Gulf coast, issued an aggressive series of commemorative coins in the early 1970s primarily as a revenue-generating scheme aimed at collectors — not for domestic circulation. The emirate had virtually no numismatic infrastructure of its own; these pieces were struck in European mints and marketed internationally before the UAE federation absorbed the Trucial States in late 1971, effectively ending Ras al-Khaimah's independent issuing authority.

The two-year gap between the stated 1970 striking date and the 1972 Munich Games it commemorates is characteristic of the entire series.
