Aanvullende informatie

Dominica gained independence from Britain on November 3, 1978, making this one of the shortest gaps between independence and commemorative gold issue in Caribbean monetary history — the coin was struck the same year the Associated State dissolved. The Imperial Amazon parrot had been the symbol of Dominica's conservation movement since the early 1970s, when populations had been decimated by hurricanes and hunting; the newly independent government had been lobbying internationally for its protection before independence was even formally achieved.
