Obverse description The third definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Raphael Maklouf, is depicted in right-facing profile at centre, wearing the George IV State Diadem adorned with floral emblems and pearls, a pearl drop earring, and a pearl necklace. The portrait is rendered with fine detail against a polished mirror field, with the engraver's initials 'RDM' visible at the truncation of the bust. The legend 'ELIZABETH II' arcs along the left periphery and 'AUSTRALIA' along the right, with the date '1996' positioned at lower right. The coin features a distinctive scalloped inner border framing the entire design.
