Obverse description The traditional Irish harp, the national symbol of Ireland, is depicted in high relief at the center of the field, rendered with fine ornamental detail including decorative foliage at the base and carefully engraved strings. The legend 'ÉIRE' arcs along the left side of the coin, with the date '2018' inscribed along the right side, both following the curve of the coin's border. The overall design is clean and minimalist, consistent with the standard Irish coinage obverse tradition.

Reverse description A suffragette in period dress is depicted prominently in the foreground, holding a placard and wearing a sash, symbolising the women's suffrage movement in Ireland. Behind her, a montage of female figures representing women across successive generations illustrates the enduring legacy of the campaign for voting rights. Colorful decorative stripes add a vivid artistic accent to the composition. The legend 'THE IRISH DEMAND THE VOTE' arcs across the upper field, while '1918 - 2018' marks the centenary commemorated, and 'VOTES FOR WOMEN' and the denomination '15 EURO' appear in the lower field.

Additional information

Issued to mark the centenary of the Representation of the People Act 1918, which granted suffrage to women in Ireland over 30 who met property qualifications — a deliberately restricted measure that excluded the majority of working-class women. Full equal suffrage in Ireland did not follow until 1922, when the Irish Free State extended the vote to all women over 21 upon independence, making it one of the earliest states to do so unconditionally.
