Canada's lunar series coins occupy a niche almost entirely driven by export demand — the domestic market has little use for them, and the Royal Canadian Mint has long understood that its primary customers for these issues are collectors in East and Southeast Asian diaspora communities, particularly in the United States and Canada itself. The Year of the Snake falls in the middle of the RCM's second lunar cycle, by which point the mint had settled into a reliable production rhythm for the .9999 fine silver format.
The snake is traditionally the sixth animal of the Chinese zodiac, associated in classical Chinese cosmology with wisdom and caution — attributes that do nothing to prevent these from trading almost purely on silver spot plus a modest collector premium.
