The Queen wears the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, with her hair elaborately dressed. The engraver's initials 'IRB' appear below the truncation of the neck. Part of Perth Mint's long-running Australian Fauna series, this issue appeared during a period when the mint was aggressively expanding its fine gold fractional program to capture the collector bullion market — particularly in Asia, where small-denomination .9999 gold proofs had developed a strong secondary market. The great white shark had featured in Australian numismatics before, but the 2007 iteration used Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth portrait of Elizabeth II, introduced to Australian coinage in 1999.
