| Obverse description | The fourth definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as modelled by Ian Rank-Broadley, is depicted in right-facing profile at the centre of the coin. The Queen wears the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, with her hair elaborately dressed. The engraver's initials 'IRB' appear below the truncation of the neck. The circumferential legend 'ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA' arcs across the upper field, while the denomination '15 DOLLARS' is inscribed along the lower arc, all set against a mirror-polished field bordered by a continuous ring of beads. |

| Additional information |
Part of Perth Mint's long-running Australian Fauna series, this issue appeared during a period when the mint was aggressively expanding its fine gold fractional program to capture the collector bullion market — particularly in Asia, where small-denomination .9999 gold proofs had developed a strong secondary market. The great white shark had featured in Australian numismatics before, but the 2007 iteration used Ian Rank-Broadley's fourth portrait of Elizabeth II, introduced to Australian coinage in 1999.
KM#975 is a low-mintage proof with no released circulation strike equivalent at this weight and denomination.
