| Reverse description | Central design depicting a stylised echidna in the 'Dreaming' artistic tradition, rendered in a highly detailed engraving evoking Aboriginal art motifs. The echidna is shown in profile amid decorative flora, with fine stippling and textured relief highlighting its distinctive spines. The legend 'DISCOVER AUSTRALIA' arcs above in the upper field, while the inscriptions 'ECHIDNA', '1/10oz', '9995 PLATINUM', the date '2009', and the Perth Mint 'P' mintmark appear in the lower field and exergue. |

| Additional information |
Part of Perth Mint's long-running Australian Platinum Proof series, which launched in 1988 as one of the first government-issued platinum bullion and proof programs in the world. The echidna — one of only two surviving monotreme genera — was a deliberate choice for a coin aimed at international collectors, its biological oddity carrying the same premium-market appeal that drives the entire series.
The 1/10 oz denomination kept acquisition costs accessible during a period when platinum routinely traded above gold.
