Hamaxitos was a minor Aeolian city on the Troad coast, its coinage output extremely limited — which is precisely why SNG Copenhagen lists only a handful of specimens across all types. The city's political independence was perpetually precarious, squeezed between larger Troad powers and the shifting territorial ambitions that followed Alexander's campaigns through Asia Minor.

The Svoronos Cretans reference situating this type is itself a scarce bibliographic resource, making die-linkage studies across surviving specimens correspondingly difficult.
