Æ14 - Aretas IV and Phasaelis

Beschrijving voorzijde	Jugate busts of Aretas IV and his queen Phasaelis facing right, rendered in the schematic Nabataean style characteristic of the early first century AD. The effigies are depicted in close proximity, with the king's bust placed slightly forward of the queen's. The flan is irregularly shaped and the surfaces exhibit heavy patination consistent with extended burial. Details of facial features and regalia are largely obscured by corrosion, though the outline of the conjoined busts remains discernible within a plain field.

Beschrijving keerzijde	Central field occupied by a crossed cornucopia motif, a symbol of royal abundance and prosperity widely employed on Nabataean bronze coinage of the Aretas IV series. The two cornucopiae are depicted intertwined or side by side, their curved horns filled with stylised foliage and fruit. A Nabataean inscription is placed within the field, reading PṢ'L, an abbreviated reference to queen Phasaelis. The overall design is rendered in the cursive, somewhat abstracted engraving style typical of Nabataean bronzes of this period.
