The 125 Rupees denomination was created specifically for this commemorative series, sitting outside normal circulation coinage entirely. Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, born April 14, 1891, chaired the drafting committee of the Indian Constitution and remains the defining figure of the Dalit rights movement — his conversion to Buddhism in 1956, just weeks before his death, was a deliberate political repudiation of the caste hierarchy embedded in Hinduism.
The .500 fineness is notably debased for a commemorative silver issue, a cost-driven choice that drew quiet criticism from collectors at release.
