| Obverse description | Right-facing uniformed bust of King Carol I, depicted in military dress with elaborate decorations, epaulettes, and a high collar, rendered in fine relief with considerable detail in the beard and uniform. The effigy is the work of engraver A. Michaux, whose signature appears in the lower field. The circumferential legend reads CAROL I REGE AL ROMANIEI flanked by the regnal dates 1866 and 1906, commemorating the monarch's forty-year reign. A fine dentilated border frames the entire design. |
