The tughra, a monogram of the sultan's name and titles, is the principal device and is executed with characteristic Ottoman calligraphic precision. The decorative border consists of deeply relief-struck acanthus-style foliage radiating from the four quadrants, imparting an exceptionally rich and artistic appearance to the small gold flan. |
