Beschrijving voorzijde The obverse displays the original design of the Brazilian 2000 Réis host coin: a circular laurel and coffee-branch wreath enclosing the numeral '200' (representing 2000 Réis) in the central field, with horizontal bars above and below. The circular legend PETRUS II D.G. CONST. IMP. ET PERP. BRAS. DEF. runs along the outer border, and the date appears in the exergue below the wreath. Struck atop the denomination numeral is the Azorean 'big crown' countermark — a raised imperial crown punch applied in 1871 to validate the coin for circulation in the Azores at the revalued rate of 1200 Réis. The coin is struck on a beaded-bordered planchet consistent with Brazilian imperial coinage of the mid-nineteenth century.

Beschrijving keerzijde The reverse presents the full Brazilian Imperial coat of arms: a large escutcheon bearing a central roundel with the Southern Cross constellation and an armillary sphere on a horizontally lined field, encircled by nineteen five-pointed stars representing the provinces of the Empire. The shield is flanked by branches of coffee to the left and tobacco to the right, tied at the base with a ribbon bow. A large imperial crown surmounts the escutcheon at the top. The circular legend IN HOC SIGNO VINCES is distributed around the upper field, interrupted by a small cross above the crown, and the entire composition rests within a beaded border.
