The shield is rendered in a somewhat crude hammered style characteristic of the Goa colonial mint. The overall composition is centrally positioned within the irregularly shaped flan, with no peripheral legend present on this face. |

The date is divided and placed in the lower quadrants of the cross, reading 17-77. A circular Latin legend surrounds the cross along the periphery, partially visible on the irregular flan, reading 'DOZE XERAFINS' (twelve xerafins), denoting the denomination. |
