| Beschrijving voorzijde | The obverse displays the Portuguese royal arms, featuring the quartered shield of Portugal with five escutcheons (quinas) in the first and fourth quarters and castles in the second and third quarters, all surmounted by an ornate royal crown with fleurs-de-lis. The shield is rendered in a somewhat crude hammered style characteristic of the Goa colonial mint. The overall composition is centrally positioned within the irregularly shaped flan, with no peripheral legend present on this face. |

| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse features a large ornate cross of the Order of Christ, boldly struck at the center of the flan, with each arm terminating in trefoil flourishes characteristic of the São Tomé type. The date is divided and placed in the lower quadrants of the cross, reading 17-77. A circular Latin legend surrounds the cross along the periphery, partially visible on the irregular flan, reading 'DOZE XERAFINS' (twelve xerafins), denoting the denomination. |
