Frederick VII Magnus ruled Baden-Durlach through one of the most destructive periods in the margraviate's history. French forces under Turenne burned Durlach to the ground in 1689 during the Nine Years' War, forcing the court to relocate to Karlsburg. Coinage from the earlier part of this reign was struck at a margraviate already under severe military and financial pressure, and the long date range of this type reflects interrupted rather than continuous production.
Wielandt's attribution remains the standard reference for Baden issues of this period, as the KM listings for minor German states of the late 17th century are frequently incomplete.
