The lion, facing right, is rendered with characteristic mane striations and open jaws, its powerful forequarters meeting those of the bull, which faces left with a pellet eye and striated body detail. The two animals occupy the full width of the die, their legs truncated at the lower edge of the design. No legend or inscription is present in the field. The vigorous, bold modelling is typical of the royal coinage issued under Kroisos at Sardis. |
