| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central motif features two hands engaged in a firm handclasp, rendered in high relief with expressive detail, set within a rectangular frame with geometric projections evoking a stylized flag. The legend CONTRA A INDIFERENÇA is inscribed vertically along the left field of the central frame. The denomination 1 1/2 € appears in bold numerals along the lower field. The composition conveys a powerful humanitarian message against indifference, in a contemporary artistic style engraved by José Cândido. |

AMI — Assistência Médica Internacional — is a Portuguese humanitarian NGO founded in 1984, and this issue was part of Portugal's ongoing practice of dedicating circulating commemorative coins to domestic civil society organizations. The 2008 date places it within a run of similar €1.50 bimetallic and copper-nickel pieces INCM produced for causes ranging from the Red Cross to environmental groups, none of which achieved significant circulation and most of which were absorbed directly into collector sets.
