| Description de l’avers | The personification of the VOC as an armored female figure seated facing left, wearing a crown formed of ship prows, holding an upright sword entwined with a laurel wreath in her right hand and resting her left hand on a document bearing a lion seal; at her feet a tortoise and an overturned cornucopia with exotic fruits. To her right stands a column surmounted by an open book, bearing the Roman numeral C (centenary), beside which are a cornucopia and a parrot; a second column behind displays the crowned Dutch lion rampant holding a sword and bundle of arrows. The legend IN ALTERA SÆCULA PERGO arcs across the upper field, with the date MDCCII in the lower exergue. |

To the left, a rising sun emerges on the horizon behind the columns. The legend IN VIA NULLA VIA arcs across the upper field, with FAVENTE DEO in the lower exergue. The engraver's signature ARONDEAUX appears on the base line. |
