Obverse description The personification of the VOC as an armored female figure seated facing left, wearing a crown formed of ship prows, holding an upright sword entwined with a laurel wreath in her right hand and resting her left hand on a document bearing a lion seal; at her feet a tortoise and an overturned cornucopia with exotic fruits. To her right stands a column surmounted by an open book, bearing the Roman numeral C (centenary), beside which are a cornucopia and a parrot; a second column behind displays the crowned Dutch lion rampant holding a sword and bundle of arrows.
