The curved legend YEAR OF THE MONKEY arcs around the upper portion of the field, flanked by decorative parallel line motifs at lower left and right. The date 1992 is inscribed in the lower field, with the B.H. Mayer mint mark (BHM) appearing in small characters at the lower right. | Aanvullende informatie |
Mongolia's transition from a Soviet satellite to an independent republic was still raw in 1992 — the People's Revolutionary Party had only relinquished its constitutional monopoly on power in 1990, and the country was issuing collector coinage aggressively as a hard-currency earner during a period of severe economic dislocation. This piece belongs to a lunar series produced almost entirely for export, with negligible domestic circulation.
