| Obverse description | The national coat of arms of Uganda occupies the central field, featuring a traditional shield supported by a Uganda kob (antelope) to the left and a grey crowned crane to the right, with a scroll below bearing the national motto. Uganda issued this piece as part of a broader wave of African wildlife-themed collector coinage that flooded the market in the early 2000s, largely produced by European minting houses on contract and sold through international distributors rather than through any domestic circulation channel. Bank of Uganda had minimal editorial control over many such issues; the coins were essentially wholesale numismatic product aimed at overseas collectors.
Silver-plated bronze was a deliberate cost-reduction choice that allowed the series to retail at accessible price points while maintaining the visual weight of a silver issue. Expect the plating on circulated or poorly stored examples to show separation at the rim first.
