| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse features an engraved globe-grid background with a raised relief map of Europe prominently displayed in the lower and central field, surrounded by a ring of twelve stars along the lower periphery. Superimposed upon this design is a paper applique depicting two Austrian 2 euro cent coins — one showing the obverse (the numeral '2' with the legend 'EURO CENT') and one showing the reverse (featuring an edelweiss flower with the legend 'ZWEI EURO CENT' and the date '2002'). The circular legend 'THE NEW EUROPEAN CURRENCY' arcs along the upper periphery, framed by a beaded border. |

| Aanvullende informatie |
This piece belongs to a curious genre of the late 1990s novelty issues — a Ugandan shilling denomination struck to physically incorporate a genuine European Union pre-circulation 2 euro cent coin ahead of the euro's 2002 launch. The embedded coin is a real Austrian mint product, struck in copper-clad steel, bonded to the host flan via a paper applique ring. Uganda issued several of these "coin-in-coin" pieces across different EU member denominations, targeting the collector market rather than any circulation purpose.
