Obverse description The Somali national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a vertically striped shield bearing a five-pointed star, supported on either side by a rampant leopard. Below the shield, two crossed spears are interlaced with an olive branch, the ensemble resting on a decorative scroll. The issue date '20 22' is split across the lower field flanking the supporters. The legend 'SOMALI REPUBLIC' arcs along the upper periphery within a beaded border, while the denomination '1.000 SHILLINGS' is inscribed along the lower periphery.

Additional information

Somalia's elephant bullion series has been issued annually since 2004, with each year bringing a new reverse design — a practice borrowed deliberately from the South African Krugerrand model to encourage year-on-year collector accumulation. The series is produced under license by the Bavarian State Mint in Munich, not by any Somali minting authority, which has no functioning mint of its own.

The 2022 issue marks one of the later entries in an eighteen-year run that has quietly built a secondary market among European bullion collectors, particularly in Germany, where the Bavarian State Mint's distribution network is strongest.
