The P#113 is part of the series Sri Lanka introduced after the Central Bank moved away from the portrait-based designs that had defined its notes since the 1970s. De La Rue printed this series through a period of acute civil conflict — the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam were at their operational peak through the mid-1990s, and counterfeiting pressure on high-denomination notes was a documented concern driving security upgrades across the region.
The security thread on this issue is a windowed rather than fully embedded type, a transitional feature that De La Rue was deploying across several Asian central bank contracts at this time before fully windowed threads became the regional norm.
